Vida Pharmacal’s V1001 is the first antiparasiticide developed and tested to treat Chagas disease in dogs. V1001 (itraconazole/amiodarone) eliminates T. cruzi parasites in dogs and helps reverse symptoms of heart disease. Side effects include vomiting, decreased appetite, weight loss, dermatitis, and increased liver enzymes. All side effects are reversible with dose adjustment. The antiparasiticide was successful in 100% of canine patients that finished treatment. During in vitro human heart cell studies, V1001 demonstrated >95% efficacy in clearing T. cruzi.
